Star Speedway was back on track this past weekend, with their first Friday night program of the 2024 racing season. on Friday, May 17. Friday’s racing action featured some of Star Speedway’s most competitive weekly racing divisions, as the Ken Izzett Construction Late Models were on schedule for 50 laps around the Epping oval to kick-off their season. The Woody’s Auto Street Stocks, Six Shooters, Pure Stocks, and Pro V8 Sportsman were also all on hand as part of Friday's racing program.
George Maroun topped a competitive field of Late Models, as the veteran driver claimed his first win of the 2024 season in his George's Bakery sponsored machine. Connor McDougal had a solid run in a new car, coming off of a hard crash at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in his last outing, finishing in second. Adam Lovejoy drove his Renfrew Motorsports sponsored number 2 to a podium finish on Friday, as he claimed the third position behind Maroon and McDougal. In Woody’s Auto Street Stock action, Charlie Baldwin was able to shake off some early season bad luck and claim his first Star Speedway win of the season in the division's main event. Young gun Clark Brooks drove his family owned ride to a runner up position, with last years champion Shane Gendron rounding off the podium in third. Kody Parker proved himself the man to beat in Six Shooter competition, as he grabbed checkers in Friday nights feature race. Paul Childs continued to have a solid start to his 2024 campaign, grabbing another runner up finish behind Parker. Six Shooter veteran Adam Knowles trailed Parker and Childs to the line to claim third spot on Friday night. The MLM Diagnostic Services Pure Stocks saw Andrew Harmon set the pace and grab the feature win during the division's Friday night main event. Former Pure Stock champion George Riley Jr. followed Harmon across the stripe to claim second, with Cody Fissette rounding out the top three. Matt Robinson rolled into Star victory lane for the first time this season, as he drove his Pro V8 Sportsman to the win during the division's Friday night feature race. Jimmy Renfrew Sr. was next across the line behind Robinson when checkers flew, with Mitch Wendell rounding out the podium in the third spot.
